The BC-5A-M series are state-of-the-art battery chargers with high efficiency and low cost in a compact metal body. Chargers are designed to withstand high levels of disturbances found in the electrical network. The BC-5A-M series chargers are practically impossible to destroy, as they have protection against overload, short circuit, high temperature and reverse battery pole reversal protection. Overload protection is current limiting type, not hiccups. Hiccup-protected chargers will shut down in case of overload and will be unable to charge an empty battery at its rated current.
In the event of a short circuit or overload condition, the BC-5A-M charger does not shut down and simply supplies the rated current, allowing full speed charging of an empty battery. In case of overheating, the charger will automatically reduce its output current and continue normal operation.
The chargers offer automatic detection of battery voltage. Thus, the same module operates on either 12V or 24V without the need for manual selection, eliminating human errors.
The BC-5A-M chargers have an input voltage range of 170-305V, allowing use in most countries with nominal voltages of 220VAC to 277VAC. Rated output is fully available over the entire 170-305 VAC range without derating. The BC-5A-M chargers offer an environmentally friendly operating mode. Green mode consists of reducing the operating frequency when the load decreases. Thus, chargers reduce their losses, helping to protect the environment. With very small loads, they enter a float mode to further reduce consumption. The chargers have very low energy consumption in no-load mode, once again helping to protect the environment. The chargers' peak efficiency exceeds 91.5%, resulting in lower long-term operating costs. For example, compared to a 24V/5A charger with 85% efficiency, with 30% average load and 20 years of operational life, the BC-5A-M will consume 600KW-hours less electrical energy. This results in approximately $132 less energy expenditure per charger.
The rectifier fault output is capable of activating a relay or transmitting the operational status to the Generator Set Controller which will give an alarm in the event of a fault.
